Joyce Sharen Pauley

Joyce S. Pauley, age 93, of Palm Bay, Florida, Pickerington, Ohio, and Alum Creek, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024 in Heath, Ohio. She was born November 1, 1930 in Alum Creek, West Virginia to the late French and Rhoda (Holstein) DeBord.

In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in passing by her husband, Fleat Pauley; husband, Frank Burkhart; sons, David and Rick Pauley; siblings, Talmadge, Virginia, Freda, Rosemary, James, Gene, Tinker, and Sherry; sons-in-law Denny Phillips and Ray Langel.

Joyce is survived by her loving children, son, Lanny (Susette) Pauley; daughters Debbie (Lonnie) Hobbs, Anna (Rob) Farrington, and Rhoda Langel; stepsons, Jamie, Wade, Steven (Michael) Burkhart; 19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Joyce left behind a legacy of love, raising her family that continues through each generation. She was a lifelong learner and proponent for the love of school. She was valedictorian of the Class of 1948 from Washington District High School.

Being an independent person she also worked outside the home once her kids were in school. She was the middle child of nine children who laughed, hugged, and enjoyed each other so much. There was always music and singing in her world. Her love of learning and music made it through to her grandchildren. All who knew her loved her kindness in the talks they shared.

A memorial service for Joyce will be held at Maranatha Church, 170 E. Columbus St., Pickerington, OH on October 26, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with interment in the Violet Cemetery.
