John Thomas Reese of Alexandria passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. John was born to Ellis and Sylvia Reese on June 16, 1932 in Newark, Ohio.
John is survived by his wife, Verda V. Reese, of 38 years; sister, Mary June (Elmer) Refine; seven blended children, Gerald (Debra) Reese, Robyn Glowa, Carla (John) Morrow, Tom (Brenda) Reese, Rick (Paula) Wyrick, Cindy (Jay) Andrews and Randy Wyrick. These beautiful children and spouses have blessed John with wonderful memories and the joy of 32 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren. He is also survived by several cousins, nephews and nieces.
John graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Agriculture and Agronomy. He served in the U.S. Army as 1st Lieutenant, USAR Artillery at Fort Sell, Oklahoma. He farmed for a living and was the pioneer of no-till farming in Licking County. He served on the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department, the Northridge School Board (1966 – 1969), and the Alexandria Museum Board. He was a member of the FFA, was involved with Robinson Hybrid Seed Corn and had outstanding service with the Department of Plant Pathology. John served on the Alumni Industry Advisory Committee at The Ohio State University (1977 – 1985).
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 16 at the Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home in Pataskala from 1 – 3 PM and 5 – 7 PM.
Funeral service will be at 11 AM on Friday, November 17, with one-hour visitation prior to service, at the Alexandria Baptist Church, Pastor Lloyd Markley officiating. Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Alexandria.
