Our mother went home to be with our Lord at 11:15 pm, on Thursday, July 7th, 2022. She passed from this life to her heavenly home, while residing at Abbington Assisted Living Facility, Pickerington, Ohio. She was born on March 7, 1928, at the family farm in Pataskala, Ohio. Mom was the daughter of Muriel and Florence (Duerr) Robinett. Mother had two brothers who have preceded her in death, Laurence Robinett, and Richard Robinett.
Dorothy was a faithful wife to Melvin Weaver, a homemaker, and Mother to four children, Bruce Weaver (wife Tonda), Craig Weaver (wife Melody), Roger Weaver (wife Cindy), and Linda Schoener (husband Tom). Mother and Dad were married at the Pataskala Methodist Church, Pataskala, Ohio.
Dorothy and Melvin traveled the world, visiting over 72 different countries, returning to Paris three times and London at least twice. Mom especially loved the culture of India. Despite being disturbed by the poverty she experienced in that part of the world. They also enjoyed discovering all the treasures in the USA, having traveled to most of the states, often camping in a conversion van.
Mother was a gifted seamstress; no article of clothing was too much of a challenge. She was an expert in many needle arts, knitting sweaters, and throws. She also had her own loom, making many rugs and table covers. She had a great love for books and was an avid reader all her life. Mom loved learning new skills and was always trying something new.
Another favorite pastime of Mom and Dad’s was visiting various State Fairs, they both loved being a part of staff at the Ohio State Fair each year. Mother was an expert baker and won many ribbons for her entries at the Ohio State Fair baking competitions. She also entered baking competitions at local county fairs and won many ribbons.
Mother and Dad were members of the Pickerington Senior Center where they spent many afternoons playing Euchre with other seniors. They were members of the Violet Baptist Church in Pickerington, Ohio.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Melvin and one son, Bruce (Tonda) Weaver. She is survived by sons, Craig (Melody) Weaver of Pickerington, Ohio, and Roger (Cindy) Weaver of Pickerington, Ohio, and daughter, Linda (Tom) Schoener of Pickerington, Ohio. Mother loved her family, especially her grandchildren… Jennifer (Frank) Deck, Baltimore Ohio, Matt (Amanda) Nofzinger of Grove City, Ohio, Brittany (Brandon) West, Wheatland, Wyoming, Scott Weaver, Columbus, Ohio, Dylan (Laura) Weaver of Gahanna, Ohio, Dustin (Samantha) Weaver, Obetz, Ohio, and Grace Weaver, Pickerington, Ohio. Christina (Ralph) Likens, Columbus, Ohio. Mother’s recent health prevented her from spending much time with her 8 great-grandchildren and has one great-grandson on the way.
Dorothy’s family will be having a private gathering at Kauber- Fraley Funeral Home in Pataskala, with a graveside service at Pataskala Cemetery to follow. The service will be officiated by retired pastor and family friend, Tim Burden and will take place graveside.
Dorothy’s children would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff at Abbington Assisted Living, Pickerington, Ohio where mother spent the last two years of her life. Mother was greatly loved and will be missed by her many friends at Abbington. Mother enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, and participating in the many activities scheduled daily at Abbington Assisted Living with the other residents. She was able to participate until the last months of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dorothy’s honor to the Abbington Assisted Living - Activities Department. Mother loved meeting up with friends to play games and enjoyed the various entertainers that were often featured. Mom would love knowing that we supported their activities in this way.
