Walt N. Lang Heer was born in February 1945 to Al and Edna Heer. He attended Pleasant Valley School, and Glen Speck. He graduated Paso Robles High School in 1962 and received an Ag Business degree from Cal Poly in 1966. He was the first student from Paso Robles to attend the national FFA Convention.
Walt enjoyed many years in the almond processing business, developing people, processes, and equipment. He saw the industry grow from a small specialty crop to the largest agriculture export in California. He also enjoyed farming and raising cattle on the family ranch in Estrella. His greatest delight was seeing families enjoy The Pumpkin Farm, which his sister started, and his parents ran for decades, eventually taken over by Walt.
Walt was a veteran of the Vietnam War, active in 4-H, FFA, Pioneer Day Committee, Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce Ag Tour, Toastmasters, The Mennonite Church, and was past Captain of the Kern County Rangers.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Chris. He is survived by son, Toby, and grandchildren, Lane and Cassy; sister, Marty Blaauw and husband John; brother, Henry Heer and wife Leslie; nephews: Alex, Robert, Tyson and Wade and niece, Nicole.
