Jim was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 31, 1947 to James Edward Dunn Sr. and Anne O’Connor Dunn. He was the youngest of four children, the only boy in a family of girls. He attended St. Anselm School in Pittsburgh, where, in kindergarten, he met the girl who would become his wife, Sally Skeehan. He received his undergraduate degree from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1969, and a law degree from Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh in 1972. He and Sally were married in June of 1970. After law school graduation, Jim and Sally moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Jim began his career as an attorney, working for Chessie Systems (now CSX) in Cleveland; Harris Corporation and Harris Graphics in Melbourne, Florida; Ernst & Young in Atlanta, Georgia and McLean, Virginia; and McCormick & Company in Baltimore, Maryland. After retirement, he and Sally moved to Templeton, California.
Jim was a loving husband and a devoted father and grandfather, supporting his wife and children in all of their endeavors with a ready smile and a terrific sense of humor. He and Sally traveled the world together, and upon returning home, Jim memorialized each trip with a witty poem. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and carpentry, and created bookcases, desks, and other furniture for his family. He was a willing volunteer coach for his children’s sports teams, and, along with Sally, was always quick to the dance floor when the mood struck.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Anne (Nancy) Dunn, and is survived by wife Sally Skeehan Dunn; children Meghan and Mark, grandchildren Elijah and Sebastian Haas; and sisters Mary Jo Wuenschel and Patricia Aiken.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Williams Catholic Church, in Atascadero, California, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the University Scholarship Fund of Jim’s alma mater, St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA.
