Cal was a colleague, a mentor and a dear friend as we worked together at Upland High School.  I also taught his two daughters, Margaret and Francine, which brought us closer together. I have such wonderful memories of both Cal and Letty. I miss them both.  
I am just so devastated by his passing but am consoled by the fact that he lived a full, rich life and is now free from pain.

I just learned of Cal's death and was greatly saddened.  As a Sierra Club member since 1965 active in the Angeles Chapter, the CNRCC, and its Southern California Forests Committee over many years, I have had much contact with Cal. I was impressed by the respect that that his views on the issues always engendered at CNRCC meetings.
