William A. Stransky was born December 5, 1932 in Dickinson, North Dakota to his parents Bill and Della. Bill attended St. Patrick's Catholic Grade School. He then attended Dickinson High School where he played first team basketball and graduated in 1950. Bill entered Dickinson State Teachers College for the next two years and then transferred to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Bill graduated in Accounting-Law with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1954. He was immediately hired by the Army Audit Agency in Minneapolis, Minnesota and assigned on a tour to audit government contracts in five states adjacent to Minnesota.
In 1956, Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served duty at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico for one year and then was transferred to Orleans, France as a Specialist Third Class with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Bill met Joan Kramer in Orleans and they were married there on May 24, 1958. They transferred back to the United States in June 1958 where Bill was honorably discharged from military service and resumed his civilian job with the Army Audit Agency. Joan and Bill resided in Davenport, Iowa during this time and Joan gave birth to their two sons Bill and Daniel in 1959 and 1961.
In 1962, Bill accepted an accounting position with the newly formed NASA Mission Control Center in
Houston, Texas. The installation was later renamed the Johnson Space Center where Bill spent 23 years in progressively more responsible financial and administrative position.
He retired from government service in 1985. His most significant award, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Exceptional Service Medal was given during a public ceremony in 1977 in recognition of his outstanding managerial leadership and dedicated service.
In 1985, Bill was hired by the Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as the Manager of the Institutional Operations Section to direct the computerization of Johnson Space Center budget and accounting systems.
He then departed from professional services and devoted his time to hunting, fishing and enjoying the company of his wife, family and grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife Joan, his oldest son Bill and wife Christine and their children Elizabeth, Nicholas and Sarah living in Wharton, TX, his youngest son's widow Sandra living in Deer Park, TX, and his sister Donna Mae Sampson living in Billings, MT.
Final services for Bill include: visitation Tuesday, June 27 at 11:00AM with a funeral service beginning at 12:00PM at Grand View Funeral Home. Immediately following he will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park.
