He was born on August 13, 1931 in Union City, PA to the late William I. Gray and Inez Lillian Upperman.
After graduating from Union City High in May 1950, he served in the United States Airforce for 28 years, this following a 2 ½ yr. service in the Naval Reserve while still in High School. He worked various jobs before entering the Military while in school including: setting up pins in a Bowling alley, at Catfish Lumbermill, Continental Rubber Works (2 yrs.) and he also said he was a Soda Jerk. He retired in 1980 and then made his residence in Pasadena, TX. He continued to work at Dallas Airport and Ellington Airforce Base in Air Traffic Control. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially Holiday gatherings. William (Bill) was an avid sports fan especially for his favorite Team: Notre Dame.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his stepmother Mildred Gray, and his wife of 60 years, Katie Wanda Lee Clendenen Gray; his sisters: M. Eloise Zimmer, Gwendolyn Hanlin, Dorothy Groves and Violet Sidman, Step-Sisters: Evelyn Miller and Joyce Venard; his brothers: Richard Gray and Merle (Butch) Upperman; His Son, Bill Gray and Son-in-law, Ed Tolley.
Survivors include: brother-in-law Rueben (Red) Miller, sister-in-law Vickie Upperman; Daughter Judith Ann Tolley of Alaska; Granddaughters Kendra (Chip) Conway and Krystal (Steve) Campbell of Alaska; Great-grandsons Ryder Conway and Garrett Conway of Alaska; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Del Angel Funeraria, 901 Main St., Pasadena on Friday (8/04/2023) from 9:00AM to 10:00 AM and are invited to attend the Memorial Service on Friday, August 4, at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Officiating: Pastor Bill Cole. Interment at Veteran’s Cemetery in Houston, TX at 12:30 PM with a retired Military Service.
