Walter Wayne Hampton was born in Houston, Texas on March 18, 1947 to Harry Pierce Hampton and Dorothy Marie (Holdridge) Hampton. He was the eldest of three children which included his two little sisters, Reta and Diane. He went to multiple elementary schools in the southeast Houston area and graduated from Galena Park High School. Walter worked from a young age and always helped his family. He also took care of his little sisters. Walter was named Most Christian Boy as a senior in high school. He was very involved with the Youth for Christ and after graduation went to Southern Bible College in Houston, Texas to pursue ministry. However, he decided to not complete this path and went to work instead. At 27 years of age he became a father to his one and only child, Heath Wade Hampton, Sr. who he lived with for the rest of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Reta Hampton. He is survived by his sister Diane Tillery, her husband Rickie, their children Shauna and Bracy, his nephews Kyle and Bryan Leach, his son Heath, Sr. and daughter-in-law, Theresa Hampton, his granddaughter, Aurielle Marie Hampton, and his grandson, Heath Wade Hampton, Jr. and his wife Claudia Hampton. He will be greatly missed.
