Shelton graduated from the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He married Myrleen DeSart on August 10, 1962 and served in the Air Force Reserve for 6 years.
He was Employed as an Aircraft Mechanic for 39 years at Trans Texas Airways, Texas International Airlines, and Continental Airlines.
Shelton is survived by his wife, Myrleen DeSart Harper, his son Jeffrey Robert Harper, daughter-in-law Cathy Wiggs Harper, grandsons Alexander and Jackson Harper, granddaughter Madison Harper, and his faithful friend and companion Lexi Lee.
He is preceded in death by his son Scott Wesley Harper, parents Statham and Opal Fuller Harper, and his brothers W.S. Harper, Billy Harper, and Jack Harper.
It was Shelton’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee
