Sandra “Sandi” Watkins walked through the pearly gates of Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior on August 27, 2021. She was born in Jasper, Texas on May 25, 1953 to Arthur and Maxine Young. After graduating from Jasper High School in 1971, she attended Massey Business College in Lufkin where she met the love her life Ronnie, whom she married in 1973. In 1985, Sandi began her 32-year career with the City of Deer Park. She started as the Deputy City Secretary, and seven years later, she was promoted to City Secretary. Sandi’s love for Municipal Government led her to earn many certifications and accolades for her work in city service. She reluctantly retired from the City of Deer Park in 2017. Sandi was an active member of the community and volunteered for many organizations including, Totally Texas, Deer Park Metro Go Texan Committee, Pasadena Rodeo Committee and The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She and Ronnie were long standing, active members of First Baptist Deer Park. Sandi’s greatest joy was spending time with her family celebrating holidays and birthdays as well as watching her 3 grandchildren in their extra-curricular activities. Sandi also enjoyed cooking, working in her garden, reading, writing short stories and scrapbooking. Her adventurous spirit led her and Ronnie across the U.S. to see and experience many of God’s amazing landscapes. Sandi was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Young, and her son, Sean Watkins. Sandi is survived by her husband of 48 years, Ronnie Watkins, daughter Latisha Peltier and husband Aaron, daughter-in-law Crystal Watkins, and grandchildren Jonathan and Abigail Peltier, and Megan Watkins, her mother Maxine Young, sister Gay Catt and brothers Randy and Scot Young, many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and numerous kids who knew her as Mama Sandi.
A visitation for Sandi will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. A Celebration of Life will occur Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Deer Park First Baptist Church, 438 E. 8th Street, Deer Park, Texas 77536. A committal service will follow Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Grand View Memorial Park, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505.
