Sargent first class Roy Melvin Maurer, 85 passed away peacefully at his home on 4/24/23. Roy was a decorated veteran who served in the Korean War and spent 21 years in active duty. Roy was born on 10/12/1937 in Warren Ohio to his parents John and Cora Maurer. When he was 18, he enlisted in the Army. Roy was stationed overseas in Germany, spent time at Fort bliss, Fort Lewis, went to the Korean War, back to Fort Bliss, back to Korea then retired at Fort Carson 1978. Roy finally settled down in Pasadena, Texas.
In 1978 he joined the American legion post 521. He was the last member of the Memorial team. Roy currently held Second Vice Commander and Asst. Sgt. at Arms at post 521. He was the past post Commander for 4 years and past district Asst. Sgt. at arms 1998-2000. Roy loved cooking for the members and visitors at the post and specialized in baked chicken, Chili, and pork chops with sauerkraut. He loved the post, its members, and its visitors.
Roy leaves behind his loving wife Theresa Maurer, his brother Donald Maurer and Sister Cathy Duderstadt. His Children and stepchildren with spouses, Rosemarie Schroader, Cathy & Del Robertson, Johanna & Dave Jylha, Pete Valencia Jr., Anne-Marie & Paul Pittman, Christy Strout, Anja Maurer-Hunt, Roy Maurer JR, Katie & Carl Jones, and Carolynne & Marshall Edwards. Roy is also leaving behind 38 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews live on.
There will be a funeral service held at Pasadena funeral chapel on Pasadena Blvd. Wednesday 5/3/23 Viewing 9-10, service 10-11, followed by a procession to the VA cemetery.
Instead of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to The American Legion Post 521 Memorial team in his honor.
