Bob, “Papa” Stites, 93, of Hempstead, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2023.
Born December 1st, 1929, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, to LaCelle and Florence (Albrecht) Stites. After graduating from Glen Ridge High School in 1947, he worked at American Tobacco while a member of the National Guard. He proudly served his country in the National Guard and Army from 1948-1954. After moving to Texas, he met his soulmate, Marion, at JJ Newberry in 1958; they married December 29th, 1965. Continuing to work with his wife of 57 years, both transferred to Cloth World Fabric LLC and eventually retired from the IRS. After retirement, they were long-time residents of Clear Lake until 2021, moving to Hempstead.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother; LaCelle Stites Jr., Sister; Phyllis Ciccone, daughter; Judy Carmichael, grandson; Steven Cook, and his wife; Marion.
Left to cherish Bob’s memory are brother; Charles Benjamin (Anne) Stites, daughter; Patricia Cook of Pasadena; son; Donald (Carol) Quarles of Hempstead; six grandchildren; Lisa (Charlie)Micheletti of League City, Robert (Stacie)Quarles of Richmond, Lance (Julie)Cook of Longview, Angela Quarles of Bastrop, Jeffrey Carmichael of Chesapeake Virginia, and Donald (Julia)Quarles Jr of Alexandria Virginia. Seventeen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. His Fur Friends; Abby, Blondie, and Sprinkles.
Pallbearers will be Robert Quarles, Jeffrey Carmichael, Lance Cook, Donald Quarles Jr, Zach Quarles, and Johnathon "Butch" Sayers.
Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Oct 4th, 2023, in the Chapel of Grandview Funeral Home located at 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, TX 77505, under the direction of Chaplain Brent Sims. Interment will follow at the Grandview Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of service at 2:00 PM.
The family wishes to thank the loving care provided these last years by Bob’s son, Donald, and our Angel on Earth, daughter in law Carol Quarles.
