Robert Hugh Broughton

Bob moved to Pasadena, Texas when he was a teenager. He soon enlisted in the United States Marines and served in WW2 and the Korean conflict. During this time, he met his life-long love, Ruth Bezdek Broughton. They married in 1948 and had 2 children, Jim and Terri.

After his service in the Marines ended, Bob began his career at Petro-Tex Chemical. He worked in the laboratory there for many years and later as the Director of Transportation until his retirement. After his retirement, Bob was a real estate broker for Qualified Properties in Pasadena. During his time at Petro Tex he traveled extensively, making many trips to Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He enjoyed these trips and the friendships that he developed and was able to share many trips with Ruth. He was a member of the Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department in the 1960s and served as President of the Petro-Tex Credit Union for several years.

Bob & Ruth were active members of St. Pius V Catholic Church for most of their married life. Bob served as a volunteer in many different capacities during his time at St. Pius. After moving from their home, he became a member of St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Clear Lake.

Bob was a great example of love and commitment and took loving care of Ruth during her last years. He had a ready smile that lit up a room and was always ready to talk. He was a huge Astros fan and enjoyed watching the Texas Longhorns. He loved to work in his yard, enjoyed hunting with Jim, drinking coffee and eating donuts! His family loved him dearly and we were blessed to be able to be with him during his final days.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of almost 75 years, Valeria “Ruth” Broughton; his son, James “Jim” Broughton; his parents Hugh and Betty Broughton; his sister, Eleanor Langeman; his brother Wm. Allen Broughton.

He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Terri (David) Hanan & daughter-in-law, Sandy Broughton: 6 grandchildren: Matthew (Jill) Broughton; Andrew (Chaundra) Broughton; Meredith Broughton; Michael Hanan (Marie Franki); Kathryn (John) Thorkelson; Kevin Hanan. 6 great-grandchildren: Kaley, Alyssa, Jamisyn, Josie, Ellis and Jack.
