Richard Jennings passed away on July 17, 2011 in Sweeny, TX at the age of 88. He was born on February 1, 1923 in Williamstown, W VA to Richard McKinley Jennings and Pearl Dale Copen-Jennings. Richard is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Burton K. Jennings. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Wilma Jennings; 2 sons, Richard William Jennings and wife Barbara; Robert Allen Jennings and wife Tamara; 1 daughter, Thelma Dale Buchanan and husband Don; 1 brother, Frank Jennings and wife LaDonna; 8 grandchildren; Angie Jennings; Jason Jennings and wife Keely; Amanda Jennings; Greg Jennings; William Jennings; Nathan Buchanan and wife Kayla; Aaron Buchanan; Melissa Huffman; 15 great grandchildren, Elaina, Kate, Olivia, Ariana, Ciara, Gavin, Mia, Joshua, Abby, Chris, Kirsten, Jacey Kate, Kensley, Mayghann, and Forrest Wade. And many Church families and friends.
Richard proudly served his country. During WWII, Tech Sergeant Jennings flew 35 missions over Northern France, Ardennes and the Rhineland as a B-24 Bomber flight engineer/gunner. After the war, Richard completed college and US Air Force Officer Training. He was stationed in Japan and Korea. After Korea, he transferred to the U. S. Army Reserves and after many years, Chaplin Colonel Jennings retired from the 75th MAC Unit. He was a member of several organizations including Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
Richard never met a stranger and was always talking about Jesus Christ his Savior. He helped build several Churches serving in many capacities. Richard lived what he preached and had a love for everyone. As he looked back over his life, he realized that “Jesus was always there” in war and peace. Richard had many favorite Bible verses including John 3:16 and Psalms 103.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 between the hours of 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Grand View Funeral Home, with funeral services beginning at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Grand View Memorial Park.
In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial donations in honor of Richard may be mailed to the Full Gospel Lighthouse 701 Brockman Sweeny, TX 77480
A memorial service will also be conducted Sunday July 24, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Full Gospel Lighthouse, 607 North Hackberry St. Street Sweeny, Texas 77480
