Born in Goliad, Texas, on December 31, 1938, Popoe lived a life defined by dedication — to his family, his work, and his country. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, an experience that instilled in him a lifelong respect for service and commitment.
Following his military service, Popoe continued to embody the values of hard work and perseverance throughout a successful 40+ year career in the building and construction industry with Ivey Construction. A devoted, hardworking, man’s man, he took great pride in helping to build structures that would stand the test of time — from hospitals that care for generations of families, schools that educate our future leaders, to iconic projects like Disney World resorts, and many other impactful buildings across the country. His craftsmanship and dedication helped shape places where memories are made and lives are changed, leaving behind a legacy of lasting impact.
More than anything, Popoe was a family man. He married the love of his life, Margaret “Honey” Reyes, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and enduring memories. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a doting grandfather and great-grandfather whose greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Popoe was a man with many friends, just as many nicknames, and countless hobbies. Whether it was fishing, building keepsakes, supervising quality control on the various family household projects, cheering on his favorite teams, sharing stories with friends and family, or trying his luck at the casino - he embraced life’s simple pleasures and created a legacy of love, laughter, and fun.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Margaret “Honey” Reyes, his mother Eva Garcia Reyes, his father Refugio Reyes Sr., and his brothers Richard Reyes and Rey Reyes.
He is survived by his loving children Yvette & Todd Ogden, Dorothy & Albert Harold, Paul & Carrie Reyes, Michael & Angela Reyes, and Linda Yerton. His treasured grandchildren Pilar & Travis Davis, Bill Ogden, Brett & Hannah Ogden, Haley Harold, Austin & Rachel Harold, Paul & Kailey Reyes, Zachary Reyes, Emily & Ricky Teepe, Natalie Nix, Brian & Evalyn Reyes, Ava Reyes, Garrett & Randi Yerton, and Zach Yerton.
