

Prudencio Escalante Ramirez, also known as “Pru”, was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a lifelong educator. He passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2016 at the age of 77 while at home in Seabrook, Texas.
Pru is survived by; wife, Joyce Ramirez; children, Renee, David, Yvonne, Ronald, Rena, Bronson, Rex, and Jessica; grandchildren; Erica, Andrew, Victoria, Elizabeth, Brandon, Dylan, Jasmine, Caitlin, Sarah, Sofia, Breanna, Leo, Ruben, Grace Elena, and Isaias; great-grandchild, Zachary; sisters Maura Garza, Lydia Cuellar, and Angelina Bali; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, Benign Escalante Ramirez; his Mother, Margarita Escalante; and his Father, Santiago Ramirez.
Pru was born in Tampico, Mexico on April 28,1939 to Santiago Ramirez and Margarita Escalante. On January 21, 1966 he became a proud American citizen. Pru graduated Valedictorian in 1958 from Weslaco High School where he was a member of the Weslaco High School Marching Band and the Weslaco High School Fighting Panthers football team. He was an outstanding athlete whom still holds records and his accolades can be found in the local museum in Weslaco, TX. Pru graduated from Texas A&M University in Kingsville, TX where he completed his Bachelors degree in English Literature. He attended law school at the University of Texas in Austin where he completed his Master’s degree. Pru’s doctorate in Political Science is from the University of Houston. He is a successfully published co-author of the college text book “A United States and Texas Government Course Outline”. Pru enlisted in the United States Army in his early 20’s and proudly served 4 years.
Pru began working part-time at San Jacinto College central campus in 1967. He became a full-time Spanish Professor and then began teaching Government in the fall of 1975. Pru was a lifelong educator whose passion for teaching led him to a 49+ year career with San Jacinto College and it has been estimated that over the years he touched the lives of over 35,000 students.
Pru was the happiest when he was surrounded by his wife, family and students. He enjoyed traveling, football, music, and mechanics throughout his life. He played guitar for personal enjoyment and was known as a skilled and intuitive musician. Pru was a spiritual man and he spent a few years of his life as a pastor of a small church in Southeast Houston in the late 1960’s. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A wake/visitation is scheduled from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on September 29th at Grand View Funeral Home at 8501 Spencer Hwy., Pasadena, TX 77505. A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00am on September 30th at Mary Queen Catholic Church at 606 Cedarwood in Friendswood, TX 77546.
