Polly was preceded by her parents George and Dolly Avery, brother Kenneth Avery and wife Marty, sister Roberta Lambert and husband Don, sister-in-law Nellie Pittman, and loving husband of 40 years, Evans Robicheaux, her daughter Lynn Goodwin and her beloved cat of 21 years Sheba. Polly is survived by her daughter Brenda Abercrombie and her husband Tom. Grandson, Jim Abercrombie and wife Lorelei, their children, Sydney, Reagan, and Dylan. Grandson, Jeff Abercrombie. Daughter Pamela Robicheaux and step-son Evans Robicheaux Jr, wife Stephanie, granddaughter Danielle.
A consummate mother and homemaker, Polly was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Over the years she amassed a large collection of recipes that unfortunately were all in her head. Also, when it came to measuring ingredients that was all done by the touch of her hand. (no measuring cups for her). It would frustrate her oldest daughter Lynn, because she measured everything to the exact ounce. Polly did spend a lot of time in the kitchen but she also had an appetite for life in general. She loved the color red. She loved to get manicures and there was no guessing on what color, “Red.”
Roby and Polly had a spot on Lake Livingston where they would getaway to fish and socialize with new friends there. Her husband following a life-long dream purchased a shrimp boat. Even though Polly couldn’t swim she the braved the bay and went out to catch shrimp and fish. She would make sure that her mother was stocked up with fresh fish.
Polly was in a bowling league, even scoring a perfect 300 game. Her and her Cajun husband loved to dance at local dance halls and enjoyed entertaining friends and family with awesome cooking.
Polly was always an incredibly loving and caring mother, sister and friend. She was a huge help to her daughter Brenda travelling to Dallas to care for her grandsons when they were young. Throughout this time she took care of her ailing mother and brother (Kenneth) after his wife passed. Polly was at her best friend’s bedside when she was on hospice care until the end. She was able to be with her daughter in Austin to provide comfort while she went through chemotherapy around the same time Polly went through her own recovery of colon cancer.
Polly and Roby eventually did some travelling and spent time with his son Butch and family in IL and daughter in SC.
After her husband passed and with her precious companion cat Sheba in her lap, she loved to watch soap operas and cooking channels. She was also a sports fan and enjoyed watching golf, football, and bowling on TV.
Polly was able to take several more trips with her daughters to London, see plantation homes and San Antonio. She was able to join in some fun times with a girlfriend and go on vacation adventures to DC and go on a Hawaiian cruise.
Sadly, Polly’s health took a turn for the worse. She spent several years battling colon cancer and breast cancer. She developed a brain tumor followed by a stroke. Always a strong woman, Polly bounced back each time while still undertaking a knee and hip replacement in her 80’s.
She moved into an independent living facility close to her daughter Pam where she still enjoyed going out to eat- usually shrimp. She enjoyed spending holidays and family get togethers at Pam’s house. As her health declined her daughter, Pam,with help from her sisters, sister-in-law and cousins managed her health care.
This past year or so dementia became more of an issue. At the end Brenda and Tom graciously offered to bring her to Dallas to stay with them during hospice care. She enjoyed being around the great grandchildren and their dogs.
Jesus decided to call her home on October 13th with Pam, Brenda and Tom by her side.
Polly was dearly loved by many and will be missed until Jesus calls us all home, each and every one to our eternal rest.
