It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Norma Jean Moody who passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 11, 2023, at the age of 88 in Splendora, Texas. Norma was born on November 7, 1935, in Oklahoma to Fuston and Gertie Hoskins. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.
After high school, Norma began the esteemed job of telephone operator for 5 years in Durant, Oklahoma. Then, in 1955 Norma married Clyde Moody and they began a life together raising four beautiful children. She then dedicated the next several years of her life as a devoted stay-at-home Mom where she could be found baking cookies, sewing clothes, hosting sleepovers, and volunteering on the PTA. Once her children had all left home, she began a career with Sears as a merchandise buyer for the next 20 years. She was dedicated, hardworking, and made many lasting friendships with her colleagues.
Later in life, she became affectionately known as Mema to her 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Norma had a zest for life. She was the life of the party at all the family gatherings and always had a story to tell. Her warm and welcoming personality meant that she never met a stranger. Norma had a creative side as well and enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafting, and scrapbooking. She had a green thumb and took pride in nurturing her plants and shared this passion with her family and friends. In her free time, Norma loved to travel and explore new places. She often vacationed with her children and sisters and traveled internationally many times throughout her life. She was also a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She volunteered and was active in the women's group where she made many close friendships.
Norma leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her daughters Debbie Cain (JJ), Sherrell Thomas, Crystal Ellison (Craig), and daughter-in-law Laura Moody. Sisters Steve Anna Lyles (Donald) and Frances Kapchinsky, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Norma was adored by her 15 grandchildren Scooter Cooey (Holly), Lauren Loveland (Brandon), Melissa Duarte, Brandon Moody, MaKayla Moody, Lilah Moody, Ceci Sandoval (Raul), Brandon Eliud, Michell Martinez (Ben), Beau Cain, Sean Cain, Elizabeth Voss (Eric), Taylor Thomas (Tiffany), Cory Ellison, and Cara Ellison. She also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren: Kenzie Taylor, Cy Taylor, Ellie Cooey, Easton Loveland, Sawyer Loveland, Macree Duarte, Luna Sandoval, Diego Sandoval, Max Martinez, Olivia Voss, Amelia Voss, Hudson Voss, Timmy Thomas, Tyler Thomas, and Tessa Thomas.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Moody, her son James Moody, her parents Fuston and Gertie Hoskins, her sister Pam Pearson, and her brother Larry Hoskins.
Norma Jean Moody will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her kindness, humor, and love for life will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
The Graveside Service will be held at Grandview Memorial Park/Bethany, 8501 Spencer Hwy, Pasadena, Tx 77505, on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 11:00. There will be a reception to follow at Grandview Funeral Home.
