I had Mrs.Taylor for a teacher the first year I moved to Texas. She was always my favorite teacher. I remember so much about her. 
I am 58 now.. so it was a long time ago.
I always felt so safe in her classroom.

So sorry for your loss. Mrs. Taylor taught all three of us Warren boys, me in 1976/77. I still remember it like it was yesterday. What a fabulaous educator and person. Memories of her doing a broadway dance across the top of her desk will be with me forever.

I'm a former student fo Mrs. Taylor. She taught me , my sister and my nephew. She was a wonderful teacher. A few years ago I got to talk with her. I told her I was a science teacher. She said she was very proud of me.

Tommy, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. Your Mother was a special teacher and a wonderful person. It's been many years since we have seen you or your Mom, but my family and I remember those days. 
My son, Shawn, had Mrs. Taylor as his teacher, along with several other members of our family. Everyone wanted to have her as their teacher. She made learning so much fun. She had a special gift of teaching and anyone who knew her, loved her.
My parents were teachers at Deer Park also, so a number of members in our family grew up here. Some of us are still around the area.   
There were a number of years, while Mrs. Taylor  was still teaching at San Jacinto Elem, even after my son had gone on to Jr High School, that the two of us would stop in to say hello to Lura during the parent/teacher visitation nights. She always greeted us with a hug and smile. She was such a sweet and beautiful lady.  
We just read about her passing in the Broadcaster today and did not know. So sorry to hear of your loss. I hope she died peacefully and was without pain. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. She touched many hearts of many students and others. We will all truly miss her. God Bless You all.

Lura Taylor was the best teacher ever.  My two older brothers had her before me and I couldnt wait until she was my teacher too!  Not only was she loving in the classroom, but also outside the classroom.  When my mom was hospitalized when I was in Ms. Taylor's class, she invited me to stay with her and her family for a week.  That was 50 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.  Life with her was an adventure!  She made a huge impact in the lives of our family!! Tommy, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Mrs. Taylor was my teacher at San Jacinto Elementary. Though it was several years ago, I have a vivid image of her dancing on her desk! She was one fabulous lady, full of energy and enthusiasm. I was happy (and very lucky) to have her as my teacher!

Tommy:  I'm so sorry for your loss.  Reading through this book and posts on Facebook made me think what a kick your Mom would have gotten  from some of the stories! I hope you and your family find them endearing and comforting.  Mrs. Taylor taught my husband Bert and he has hilarious stories from 3rd grade which he still freely shares. My own memories are of Mrs. Taylor, Tommy's Momma. What a dear woman, so warm and accepting. Many years after meeting her with Tommy, she immediately knew me and introduced herself to my son Nate on his first day of 3rd grade saying... "You might have been my Grandson." Certainly an exaggeration, but it made him feel very special! Later that year she used her chemical face peel as a Science lesson!  When my younger son Zach had her the next year, I told Lura we had heard she had retired.  She said "Oh honey, they always say that I'm retiring,  but my hope is that they just find me dead in the 3rd desk, on the 3rd row of my 3rd grade class!" We just loved her! She was an amazing teacher for sure, but even a more amazing person. God rest her soul, I'm betting she has the angels standing on their desks singing Zippity Do Da in heaven!!!

Not only did my 2 Brother-in Laws (over 50 now) have her as thier 3rd grad teacher, but so did my son (30 now).  When my husband dropped him off for the first day of school, and the first thing she said was "You are one of the Kent boys aren't you?), he replied just like he was in the 3rd grade......"Yes Ma'am"!
She did so much for my son.He could be a little "difficult" but that didn't deter her.  From learning how to get the best out of him,to keeping him in line.  It didn't take much......he loved her so much.  Continued to visit her even after leaving elementary.
There will be NO other teacher that cared more for her students than she did.  Never let them down....a promise was a promise.  But she let them know she was the boss....in her heavenly way.  Because God knows she was an Angel on earth.

I didn't have her as a teacher but remember her as a "sister" of my mom's in Beta Sigma Phi.  Always smiling and laughing.  Prayers for those left behind, but am thinking about my mom greeting her in Heaven and can't help but smile.  Nancy Linberger Dornon

I also met Mrs. Taylor in 1955 as a Third Grade Teacher.  She was always smiling and ready to help anybody and everybody.  I remember seeing her again at the school when I was visiting the school with my son, a student at that time.  She was an influence one will never forget.  God Bless you and your family.

Mrs. Taylor was my GED teacher at San Jac.  She loved sharing stories about her kids in class , and her son. She loved him so very much, sharing adventures from his youth and the pride she had as he grew to be a strong man, she would beam when she spoke his name. She always put a smile on your face and well as confidence in your step because she lifted you with a grace that only a good teacher can. So with a tear in my heart I say, you were a blessing to this world, thank you, and see you on the other side.

SJE has always been known as "the place to be", so I felt extremely blessed to have received a job on the third grade team under the leadership of your mom in 1989. She was such a fun teacher and the kids adored her. I remember her quick wit and hilarious stories that had our team laughing and laughing. I know your family will miss this amazing woman, but after seeing her picture gallery, I know you will have many treasured memories of her, too.  Lura was always so proud of you and shared her love of you often with us. May God give all of your family peace and strength in the days ahead.

Lura was a favorite friend of mine, and especially of my late husband's, Richard Freedman.  She was especially kind to his son, Blake Freedman.  We had many good times together, I still have photos of Lura and others around our pool in Deer Park.....I remember that when Richard and I moved to Ore City, TX in Upshur County, where I grew up, that Richard wondered so many times what happened to "Miss Lura."  I wish I could go to her funeral, but I cannot.  She will always live in my heart, I will always remember her, the good times we had together, the kindnesses she showed to me and mine, and the friendship we had....altho I came late in Lura's life, the times we had together were very meaningful....she was a deep person....once I remember she was worried about getting older....now we all are!  I told her, "Lura, just keep laughing and saying funny things, and people will not even see those lines in your face, they will just look at you with admiration!:"  Nell Coppedge Freedman, teacher in Deer Park

Tommy, I got to know your mother during my years working at Deer Park Bank. She always came on Friday to do her business. She was so lovely, a perfect lady, and all were made richer for knowing her. She was my daughter's 3rd grade teacher, and to this day she says your mother was the best along with the most "fun" teacher she ever had! May the Lord bless and keep you and your family in this time of your great loss.

I met Lura when I was a third grader in San Jacinto School in Deer Park in 1955. She was my idol. When I was in high school, Lura was my mentor for a year. I was in her classroom daily and learned so much. She inspired me to become a teacher. Later in my career I became her Assistant Principal at San Jacinto Elementary school. She is still my idol and my friend.

I remember Lura with such joy.  Everything said above about teaching was what you knew when you were in her presence--at San Jacinto Elementary, at one of Tommy's events, in the community or wherever you saw her.  She was a special person and did, indeed, touch many lives.  I am glad that I had the privilege of knowing her.

There are a few people who come into your life and you know they have a very special place. Lura was such a lady. She taught two of my children in third grade. We also became very close friends and shared many wonderful and unique memories both joyful and sad. No one else was like Lura and I am blessed to have had her in my life. Peggy patterson

Lura lived her life punctuated by lyrics, jokes, stories, quick wit, acting and dancing!  I will remember her as an undeniably charming lady with a magnetic personality and a role model for many teachers.  She was one of my most cherished friends.

What a wonderful Lady!!!!  The memories I have I will always cherish!!!  I didn't even have her for a teacher and yet she was one of my favorites!!!  Her class would come over to Mrs. Butlers class and we did things together!  Tommy and I are the same age and we had a party at her house when we were young and she never forgot my name no matter how old I became!!!  I loved the way she dressed and I can still hear her bracelets making that ching ching sound when she walked down the hall!!!!  I love you Lura Taylor and we will miss you.  Tommy I am so sorry!!!!!

Mrs. Taylor was my third grade teacher 40 years ago and remember her like it was yesterday.  She was a light that helped lead me to teaching and I hope I am able to bless as many children as she has.

Her philosophy, "to teach is to touch a life forever" was something she definitely did! I was recently telling my daughter about her and remembering how much I enjoyed having her as a teacher. She was such an amazing lady who lived life to the fullest and was a role model to many. She will be missed dearly by the many lives she touched. I'm so thankful that I had the privledge of being taught by one of the best! May she rest in peace.

Lura inspired me when I came to San Jacinto Elementary as a first-year teacher! May you feel the Lord's comfort at this time of great loss.

Lura was my third grade team leader from 1988 until she retired. She was a mentor, a role model, and a dear friend. Her students loved her as much as the teachers in our school and I looked up to her for her expertise and knowledge as an exemplary teacher.She always had a joke or a funny story from her school experiences to keep us laughing.  I am so grateful that she graced my life for that short time and will always remember her as the teacher I aspired to be.

Lura was one of a kind - the very best kind!  I think everyone whoever came in touch with Lura loved her, expecially her students. To some, Lura may have seemed outrageous but to most, she just lived life to the fullest, enjoying each and every child she taught. She will be truly missed.
