Lura earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Sam Houston State University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Houston. After marrying Robert (Bob) Taylor in 1952, she and Bob moved to Deer Park, where Lura began teaching at San Jacinto Elementary School.
Lura received numerous honors and awards for her teaching skills. She taught third grade for over 40 years and retired from San Jacinto Elementary School in 1994. She also taught at San Jacinto Junior College for over 20 years. Lura loved teaching and often commented on how much joy teaching gave her. She lived her life with the philosophy that “to teach is to touch a life forever”.
Lura was a member of the Deer Park United Methodist Church. She appreciated the fellowship that the church provided and participated in Bible study groups throughout the years. Lura also enjoyed the camaraderie of being a member of Beta Sigma Pi.
Lura’s loving husband of over 32 years, Bob Taylor, preceded her in death.
