The young, beautiful soul of Kristi Krummel is being laid to rest after thirty-nine years of a short yet exuberant life. Kristi passed away due to complications caused by her breast cancer in the early morning hours of December 1, 2013. She left us peacefully and void of the pains of her illness, and may she now join her beloved mother in the heavens for eternal serenity.
On the afternoon of May 4, 1974 a healthy baby girl was born to mother Lydia A. Krummel and father Robert R. Krummel. She lived a robust childhood in the company of her two younger sisters Misty and Nicole Krummel in the town of Deer Park, Texas. Eighties hairbands and a “rebel without a cause” attitude carried her through her teenage years, sharing her love of music and concerts with her mother and sisters. In her early adulthood, she graduated from Deer Park High School in the class of ’92 with a proud smile and high hopes. Her first child, Elizabeth B. Lake, would be born two years later to father John W. Lake Jr. The year 1997 blessed this young family with a second child, a bouncing boy named Robert W. Lake. Kristi shared her happy life with her children and husband up until her diagnosis of stage 4A Inflammatory Breast Cancer in the fall of 2010. Even then, her stubborn attitude and strong will exceeded the fears and doubts associated with such a frightful disease. She fought bravely and was pronounced to be in remission some months later. Kristi did not take the scare lightly, and joined her friends and family in celebrations, trips to the beach, wild nights seeing her favorite bands, and close-knit holidays. But her fight was far from over, when a routine check-up eight months later revealed a cancerous mass in her hipbone. Always living life to the fullest, Kristi continued her late nights clad in bling and eyeliner as she watched her children begin their lives as young adults.
Kristi and her family would meet tragedy in June of 2013 when her and her sisters lost their mother, Lydia. Kristi would support her father, Robert, whole-heartedly through his mourning and be the rock for her family. But for the next few months, Kristi would battle infection more than her cancer as she was hospitalized weekly, being cared for by her daughter and sister Misty. After the doctors announced the presence of a fatal tumor in Kristi’s stomach, Misty would take her into her home for her final weeks of care surrounded by her loving friends and family. Her family took care of her until her final moments.
Her father, sisters and her two children succeed Kristi Krummel in life. Let her be remembered as fun, always down for a good time, and brimmed with wisdom beyond her years. Kristi cared for people in a way unique to few, and that sense of undying and loyal love is passed along after her departure. Kristi will always be with us in our hearts and minds as a gorgeous flower.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 5, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Grand View Funeral Home. Chapel services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Grand View Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park.
