Kenneth LeRoy Schnell, 84, of Clear Lake, Texas passed away on Tuesday, May 16th, 2017 after a battle with Lymphoma claimed his life. Ken was born on March 17, 1933, in Edgeley, ND to Minnie & Clarence Schnell. He had three brothers, Doran, Duane & Allen Schnell. Ken graduated from Edgeley High School in 1951, where he played football, basketball and baseball. On June 14, 1953, Ken married Delores Lokken. Immediately after Ken and Delores got married, he went into the Navy. He was stationed in San Diego and San Francisco. After Ken got out of the Navy, he returned to North Dakota, where he got his degree in accounting at The University of North Dakota. After graduating college, Ken accepted a job as a Deputy Finance Officer for the North Dakota State Highway Department. He stayed there for three years and then began working with the Federal Bureau of Public Roads as an auditor and then a Regional Accountant. After three more years, Ken received a call from NASA for a job. He moved to Pasadena, Tx, in 1964, where he worked in the Comptroller’s organization for the Johnson Space Center for twenty years before taking an early retirement at age 53. He then accepted a job with the Computer Science Corporation, where he was involved in developing training programs for project managers for ten years. After retirement, Ken found his true love in life, golf. He took a job at The Battleground Golf Course in Deer Park, Texas and worked there for ten years. His goal after retirement was to golf in every state. He accomplished this plus a few foreign countries in 2012.
Ken lost his first wife, Delores, to Alzheimer’s after sixty years of marriage, in 2013. While going through this hard time in his life, he fell in love with Nita Rando. On March 25th, 2015, Ken and Nita got married. He spent the last years of his life traveling with his new bride and he is now resting in the arms of his Savior.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Schnell, his parents and his three brothers.
Ken is survived by his wife, Nita Schnell, his children Kari & Thomas Oquinn, Kevin Schnell, Kent & Tammy Schnell, Ken & Tracy Smith, His grandchildren, Carisa & Kasey Zientek, Aaron & Brittney Oquinn, Ashtin & Ana Schnell, Daniel & Sarah Smith, Meagan, Matthew & Samuel Smith, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Services will be held at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena, Tx on Monday, May 22, 2017.
