Kay was born in Beaumont, Texas on February 6, 1951 to the late Purvis “Bill” Box and Lillian “Shorty” Moore. She grew up with her many friends and family and graduated from North Shore High School in 1969. That same year, she married her husband of 45 years, George Young, on August 29, 1969 and gained an instant family. Together, they raised three children, Robert, Pam and Rhonda, and gave support to all six of their grandchildren throughout their lives.
Kay spent the last 43 years of her life as a dedicated childcare provider and best friend to not only her kids and friends, but also her grandkids and countless children and their parents that came in and out of her life on a daily basis. She had a hand in shaping countless children into the adults they are today. She had a heart of gold and lived her life as a kind soul taking on a mother figure to anyone that crossed her path. She would do anything for any body. She often put herself on the back burner for everyone no matter what struggles she was going through. She loved unconditionally and everyone felt it. Her closest friends knew her best and could tell you that nothing in this world beat her laugh and smile on any given day. Kay loved cooking and sharing her table with every one. We will all remember her love for a Sonic Diet Coke and Mexican Food. As one daycare child stated, “Heaven has the best Mac and Cheese with her up there”. Kay loved her Motown music and cherished Elvis like no other. If there was music playing, Kay was singing and moving her hips to the beat. Her infectious joy will be greatly missed but is carried on in those she leaves to carry-on her legacy.
Kay is survived by her husband, George Young; her son, Robert Young and ex-wife Colleen Young; her daughter, Pamela Grubbs and husband Jeff Grubbs of Livingston, TX; her daughter, Rhonda Jordan and husband Kirk Jordan of Pasadena, TX; her much beloved grandchildren, Krissy McDonald, Karli Knight and husband Joshua Knight, Amber Clement and husband Kyle Clement, Steven McDonald, Connor Young and his fiancé Samantha Pelletier and Brandon Jordan; great-grandchild-to-be Charli Kay Knight; her mother, Louise Deason; her sister, Dorothy Stone; her best friends Marcia Crossin and Marilyn Vick; numerous extended family members; and hundreds of kids with their family members that meant the world to Kay-Kay.
She is now at peace and no longer suffering. Kay-Kay is cooking and taking care of all the young angels in Heaven now. She has her loving sister, Nancy Wharton; her dad, Bill Box; and her many buddies partying with her right now.
