On September 22, MSgt Julius A. Kolb, Jr. (USAF-Retired) passed away surrounded by his adoring family. Born in Lansing, MI to (USAF-Retired) Col Julius and Medora Kolb, he traveled frequently following the career of his father. He graduated from Anacostia High School, MD and attended the University of Maryland before enlisting in the Air Force in April 1951. During his 23 years of service, MSgt Kolb was an aircraft maintainer on a wide range of aircraft including the B-29, B-52, F-86, F-80, F-4, P-51, and KC-135. During the Korean Was he was assigned to Kimpo Air Base and Da Nang Air Base during the Vietnam War. In 1969 while stationed at Hahn Air Base, Germany, he was awarded the Airman’s Medal for rescuing a pilot from a burning aircraft after a crash landing. Following his successful Air Force career, he was an operator for Diamond Shamrock Corporation for 18 years.
Julius was an avid outdoors sportsman and had many hobbies. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor, love of a good practical joke, and infectious laughter.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Teresa Lizasoain of San Sebastian, Spain and five daughters, Sylvia Frankens and her husband Greg, of Kingwood, Tx, Eve Escobedo of Port Orchard, WA, Susie McClelland of Deer Park, TX, Sandra Kolb of Schertz, TX, and Jennifer Kolb of Kemah, TX. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren; Ryan Collins, James and Bryan Stinnett, Stephen and David Escobedo, Nicholas and Alec Andell, Noah and Crystal McCord, and Brandon and Chris Frankens. He is also survived by his brothers, Fletcher Kolb and his wife, Kathy, and Roger Kolb. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Pam Kolb, of Sacramento, CA.
