Joy Marie Hershberger Richard, 83, of The Woodlands, Texas, went to be with the Lord Friday September 25, 2015. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family. She was born at home April 15, 1932 in La Porte, Texas to Arista Hershberger and Daisy Mae Hovey Hershberger.
Joy is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, “Elvis” Louis Richard, daughter Ty Ann Richard Noyes and husband Thomas Noyes, son Tyrone Richard’s widow, Paula Richard, son Mark Richard and daughter-in-law Tracy Richard; grandchildren: Beau Richard and wife Laura Richard and Jennifer Noyes Major and husband Matt Major; great-grandchildren: Hunter and Cole Richard. Joy was recently preceded in death by son, Tyrone Richard and granddaughter, Deanna Richard.
Joy was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, and neighbor. She never said an unkind word about or to anyone and she lived her life in such a way that anyone who knew her had only good things to say about her. Joy was, without a doubt, a joy to all. “Memaw”, as she was affectionately known by her family, leaves a legacy of precious memories.
Joy dedicated her life to her family and like the “Wife of Noble Character” in Proverbs 31:10-31, she was “a truly good wife…the most precious treasure a man can find! Her husband depends on her, and she never lets him down. She is good to him every day of her life, and with her own hands she gladly makes clothes…She gets up before daylight to prepare food for her family…She always works hard…and stays busy until late at night….She is strong and graceful, as well as cheerful about the future. Her words are sensible, and her advice is thoughtful. She takes good care of her family and is never lazy. Her children praise her, and with great pride her husband says, ‘There are many good women, but you are the best!’….” (Contemporary English Version)
