John David “Mac” McKeown, Sr., 89, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 in Pearland, Texas. He was born in Houston, Texas to Taphia and Ira McKeown. His grandmother, affectionately known as Honeymom, helped to raise him, providing a positive influence on him while she lived.
At age 16, Mac enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. He went on to work as an Operator for Houston Lighting and Power Co. for 40 years. Mac enjoyed hunting, visiting Texas State Parks, tinkering in his garage, and playing a game of pool with his friends. He was a member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, achieving the rank of Fourth Degree Knight.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Geraldine McKeown, and his daughter, Mary Jane Lyons. He is survived by his son, John David McKeown Jr; twelve grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
