At the age of 18, Joe joined the Navy. He served in the Korean War as a fire control technician, serving on the cruisers USS Toledo and USS Quincy.
Shortly after leaving the Navy, he met his beautiful bride-to-be, Zelda. They married in April 1954.
Joe worked for various companies throughout the years as an electronic technician and technical writer. However, as a lover of all things space related, he landed his dream job at NASA, Johnson Space Center in 1982. He worked as an Editor, Technical Writer, Graphics Artist, and Operations Specialist until he retired in 1995.
Joe and Zelda enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. with family. They welcomed family and friends over for many holiday meals and fun nights of playing cards.
Joe was creative and loved to write poems and occasionally draw and model and whittle figures. He was adamant about any injustice or situations that needed to be corrected. As such, he would pen, in the form and fashion of a technical writer, detailed letters / proposals. One instance, he addressed the need for more parking at one of his grandson's schools with a proposal that included sketches to which quickly followed new pavement being poured. Joe also had a keen sense of humor which he would often surprise others with.
Joe was a devoted husband and caring father. He was a friend to many and will be missed.
