January 11, 1945 - January 7, 2024
Jody Burrell passed away January 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 78 years.
Born in Beaumont, Tx, he grew up in Port Neches. As a young entrepreneur, Jody worked outdoors mowing grass and saved his earnings. At Port Neches High School (Go Indians), he played baseball and football. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Marketing Degree from Lamar University in 1965.
Jody met his beloved wife Emiko Iwanaga of Japan during her visit to Texas. They married November 14, 1975. Jody and Emiko were delighted at the birth of both children Regina and Justin. He worked as an Accountant for the Lubrizol Corporation. Later he and Emiko opened a Mobil Gas Station in Deer Park.
From a very young boy, his life was spent with his parents Virgie and Russell Burrell and brother James at the family beach house in Crystal Beach, Tx. Jody always enjoyed fishing and attending big nighttime bonfires. Following a hurricane, Jody built a new beach house much to the delight of his family and friends. He was often found sitting in his deck chair watching the waves roll in and people stroll by. Naturally, he was seen wearing his preferred shorts and flip flops with a Hawaiian shirt and wearing a Cowboy hat.
Jody enjoyed watching western movies and listening to music, his favorite songs were sung by George Jones or Roy Acuff’s “The Wabash Cannon Ball". He recently travelled to Montana, Wyoming, Idaho and Colorado but enjoyed cruising and his overseas excursions also. He was an avid Astros fan.
Jody will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgie Edith Burrell and James Russell Burrell Sr. and brother James Russell Burrell Jr. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Emiko; his daughter Regina and fiancé Larry; and his son Justin and wife Amy; and four grandchildren Alexis, Andrew, Scottye and Logan.
