Janie Celeste Joiner, a cherished soul and beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023, in her hometown of La Porte, Texas. Born in Waco, Texas, on July 14, 1950, to Ersa and Mary Kelley, Janie's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and beautiful memories.
Janie's heart was always fullest when surrounded by her family. She was a loving mother to Misti Jones (Kelly), Brandi Gremillion (Robert), and Roger Turner (Amanda Newsome). She was a second mother to her favorite niece Angela Hatcher. Her brother, Ersa Kelley Jr. (Sukie), also held a special place in her heart. Janie's legacy continues through her adoring grandchildren - Jordan Jones (Yesenia Hernandez), Casey Gremillion, Sean Gremillion, and Nash Turner (Mikayla Miller) - and her treasured great-granddaughter, Cora Leigh Turner.
Those who knew Janie will remember her for her vibrant spirit and the joy she found in life's simple pleasures. Her passion for hummingbirds and butterflies was matched only by her love for plants, reflecting her deep connection with nature. She loved fishing, softball and the serenity of the beach.
Janie's love for turquoise and jewelry was renowned; her outfit was never complete without the perfect accessories. A dedicated Houston Astros fan, she celebrated life with the same vigor as she cheered for her favorite team.
As we bid farewell to Janie, we celebrate a life lived with passion, kindness, and an unbreakable bond with her loved ones. We will miss her radiant smile, her infectious laugh, and the warm embrace that made everyone feel like family. Janie's spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched, a beautiful reminder to cherish every moment.
A visitation for Janie will be held at the Chapel at Grand View Funeral Home Wednesday, December 27, 2023, 9am-10am. A celebration of life will be held at 10am followed immediately by the committal service at Grand View Memorial Park. The family warmly welcomes all who wish to share in commemorating Janie's remarkable journey.
"Forever in our hearts, always in our memories.”
