Janet was born November 18, 1948 in Cleveland, Texas to the late Roy and Ruby Cezeaux. She moved as a young child to Highlands, Texas where she grew up and then raised her children, Dory Allen (Busby) and Paul Busby. She moved to LaPorte in 2007 where she lived until she passed away.
Janet was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown and from the University of Houston at Clear Lake where in 1981 she received a degree in education with a specialty in reading. She volunteered to teach adults to read at the library for several years. She then became a professor at Lee College teaching reading and reading comprehension.
She was a member of Crosby Chapter #261 Order of the Eastern Star for many years where she served two terms as Worthy Matron. She was very involved in the Masonic youth organizations with her children. In particular, of The International Order of Rainbow for Girls where she was a Grand Cross Member and the Order of Demolay. She was also an active member of the Highlands Book Club and served as President.
Janet was a proud supporter of the Baytown Little Theater. She was an Angel Donor and enjoyed contributing to them in an effort to support her community and support the arts. Her donations helped to completely rebuild the lighting used during productions at the theater. She also donated to Second Chance Farms to support pet adoptions for pets who had disabilities.
She loved to travel and made many trips with the Lee College travel program. With them, among other places, she traveled to Alaska, New York, New England, Ireland. She loved the adventures that travel brought her. She was also a voracious reader. Because she read every night until 2 or 3 am, she slept until 10 or 11 every day. There were nights when she couldn't put a book down and would stay up all night. She was politically (and otherwise) opinionated, and fiercely independent. In the past few years, she had many medical challenges due to osteoporosis. After a bad fall and having to have her femur bone removed and replaced, a broken arm from a fall, and two knee replacements, she surprised the doctors by pushing through all of the surgeries, physical therapy and pain to become completely independent and mobile. She absolutely refused to allow this to stop her or keep her from being independent and living her life her own way. It was her way of showing them and herself that she was strong and capable and more than a little bit stubborn.
Above all things though, Janet loved her children and her grand-children. They were the light of her world. She refused to miss any of their events. Many in the community in LaPorte know her because she was at every LaPorte Bull Dog football game, every Grandparent breakfast, every Band concert, and every award ceremony for her grandchildren. There was never a question whether she was coming. Her response was always "I will be there" when it came to her children or her grandchildren. One of her favorite activities was to pick up the grandkids and take them to movies and to eat.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents Roy Else Cézeaux and Ruby Jean Cézeaux.
She is survived by her children, Dory Allen (Busby), and husband James Allen, Paul Busby and wife Daena “Sadie” Busby. She is also survived by her grandchildren Patrick Allen, Jacob Allen, Zachary Allen, Sydney Busby, and Dylan Busby. She would be upset if we didn't add that she is also survived by her beloved dog Gracie and her three cats Boomer, Star and Athena.
