Jane was born on November 26, 1944 in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she lived with her mother and grandmother until her father was able to return home from the Pacific Theater of WWII in 1945. She graduated from Nederland High School in Nederland, Texas, and received a bachelor's degree from Beaumont's Lamar Tech University in 1966, where she also met her husband Don, with whom she was married for 54 years. Jane served variously as a schoolteacher, as director of preschool and later deacon at her local church, and as an industrious mother, grandmother, and homemaker.
Jane's chosen quote for her senior yearbook was "it's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice," and this truly embodies the person that she was, always showing kindness and love without seeking praise or recognition. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her friends and family to whom she dedicated so much of her time and self. All who knew her will remember her as one of the kindest people they ever had the honor to know, and those whom she loved will be forever blessed with the positive impact she had on their life.
Mrs. Christopher is preceded in death by her parents, Vernon Leroy Dillaplain and Alice Evangeline Bennett Dillaplain. Survivors include her husband Don Christopher, children Deborah, John, and Steven Christopher, brothers Jim and John Dillaplain, grandchildren Corinne, Erica, and Blake Persons, and great-grandson Lincoln Pierce.
Local visitation service for Mrs. Christopher will be held at Pasadena Funeral Chapel in Pasadena, Texas on Tuesday, February 2nd, between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. Burial and graveside service will be held at Shelby Chapel Cemetery in Athens, Texas on Friday, February 5th, at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Dr. Fairfax Fair of First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena.
