Jackie Ray Morris

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jack Ray Morris of Pasadena, TX on September 21, 2022 at the age of 91 years. Jack was born an only child in his family home in Center Township, Ohio on March 28, 1931 to Pearl and Dana Morris. He attended, and graduated from, Pasadena High School in 1949. Jack proudly served in the United States Army from February 1951 to February 1953 as a member of the Military Police. Two of his most memorable assignments were performing guard duty at the Thule Air Force Base in Greenland during the Korean conflict and working security at the inauguration of Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1953. After his time in the service, Jack played semi-professional baseball with his stepfather Lyman Witt.

In 1954, Jack met the love of his life and best friend, Kay Gerow, at a skating rink. At her parent’s insistence, they waited until Kay graduated high school before marrying at Easthaven Baptist Church on June 3, 1955. Eager to start a family, they soon had three children, Robert, Ray, and Randy.

Jack was devoted to his family, a loving and patient husband to Kay and an incredible role model to his boys. Jack always made himself available to his children and enjoyed supporting them in their interests. He served as an assistant Scoutmaster and Little League baseball coach throughout their childhood. Always even-keeled, with a touch of dry humor, Jack was a living example of integrity, humility, and diligence.

In 1967, Jack began working for The Lubrizol Corporation at the Deer Park location. He eventually moved to the Bayport location and worked as a maintenance supervisor until his retirement in 1991.

Jack was a longtime member of Golden Acres Baptist Church and actively involved in his Sunday school class. He enjoyed his participation in the Young at Heart program at GABC. He found great pleasure in sponsoring church youth who were involved in international missions. He was an active member of South Houston Masonic Lodge #1295 for 56 years

Jack enjoyed his retirement traveling with Kay. They spent many years in campers and motorhomes traveling the US. They also enjoyed international travel to destinations, which included Panama, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, South Africa and others. After their traveling years, Jack and Kay enjoyed playing tabletop games together daily.

Jack will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Kay; his sons, Robert and Randy and wife Lisa; grandchildren, Rachel, Jeremy, Jacob and wife Allison, Samuel and wife Jessica; great-grandchildren, Haven, Connor, Reign and Caelum. His son Ray preceded Jack in death.

A Visitation will be held at Grand View Funeral Home in Pasadena on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 from 6-p.m. Funeral and burial services will be at Grand View Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at p.m.
