Gordon M. Magee, 84, of Pasadena, entered eternity March 21, 2011. He is survived by the love of his life of 63 years, Frances Taylor Magee; his two children, daughter Sandra Magee Womack and former spouse Joe B. Womack, his son Lt. Marlon ‘Bryan’ Magee and wife, Bobbie Welch Magee, 5 grandchildren; Nathan & Ashley Womack; Kyle, Matthew, and Carson Magee. Gordon was a member of First Baptist Church Pasadena and a Veteran of WW II.
Gordon was Executive Vice President of 1st Pasadena State Bank for 44 years, Treasurer of Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo, Vice-President of Retail Merchants Assoc., Board of Directors for 1st Pasadena State Bank & Republic State Bank. He gave many local businesses their start in the Pasadena area in his banking days.
Mr. Magee also had a love for law enforcement and served as an Auxiliary Police officer for Pasadena Police Department. He employed many Pasadena police officers in security while at the bank, which also inspired his son, Bryan and grandson, Nathan, to pursue a career in law enforcement. His daughter, Sandra, followed in his banking footsteps in the mortgage business.
After retirement, he served on the Civil Service Commission for the police department. In Gordon’s younger days, he was an avid hunter and fisherman like his father. He also coached and umpired Pee Wee League and loved to ride motorcycles and garden. Strangers would stop by his home to ask about his beautiful rose garden. He was a Ham Radio operator with unique friendships which led to worldwide travel. Gordon believed in doing something - it should be done with everything you have. He lived his life that way.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 24, 2011 from 6PM to 8PM at Grand View Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be Friday, March 25, 2011 at 10AM at Grand View Funeral Home.
