Garlan Dean Templer was born on January 9, 1948 in Coffeyville, KS. He graduated high school in Fredonia, KS in 1966 and later came to Houston, TX to attend college at Southern Bible College where he met his wife, Evelyn.
Garlan is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Evelyn (New) Templer, son William “Bill” Robert Templer and wife Ali Gallegos Templer from Pearland, TX., daughter, Marcia Templer Walding and husband Shane Walding from Houston, TX. Garlan is also survived by his three beloved grandchildren Hollis Templer, Camden Walding and Emily Walding, mother, Evelyn (Johnson) Templer from Willis, TX. Siblings: Charles Ernest Templer (Colleen), Galen Dennis Templer (Sherry), Tracy Eugene Templer (Trisha), Rebecca Templer Breazeale and his best friend and “brother” Bill Shoaf (Diane). In-laws: Raymond New (Linda), Geneva Edwards (Danny), Lester New (Barbara), Roger New (Pat) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Garlan is preceded in death by his father Charles Gaylord Templer, father-in-law Gilbert New, mother-in-law Martha New, brother-in-law Stephen New, and brother-in-law Richard B. Breazeale
He worked for Sysco Food Services for 28 ½ years having retired in 2005. He was a faithful member and served as an elder/leader at Love Walk Christian Center for 45 years. After his retirement he became a Lay Pastoral Caregiver (Chaplain) through the Episcopal Diocese of Texas at East Houston Regional Medical Center.
