Eva Louise Lechner Black, 88 of Houston, Texas was born June 18, 1933 in Port Isabel, Texas to Beverly Smith and Hazel Bell (Cobb) Lechner and passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022. She was an avid piano player and was in many recitals growing up. In elementary she was Valedictory at their Commencement. She graduated from La Porte High School in 1951 as the Valedictorian of her class. During her high school years, she was in the band for 4 years and played the clarinet. Her junior year she was Editor of the High School paper, was Secretary of the Student Council, and accepted into the National Who’s Who. Her senior year she was also a baton twirler in the band and the Circulation Manager of the paper. After high school she received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and later continued her education and received her Master’s degree in Education and went on to teach with special needs children. She taught at Beverly Hills Intermediate in PISD from 1980 to 2003. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 61 years and was a member of PARSE (Pasadena Area Retired School Employees).
Louise was the “Best Mother” to her children, the “Best G-Ma” to her grandchildren and great grandson. She never complained about her ailments but was quick to stand up and fight for teachers’ rights. She was a strong and proud lady, very independent, organized, and loved spending time with her family. She had a passion for any sport from the University of Houston Cougars especially basketball and football. She loved her cats, dogs, and talking about her students frequently. Her favorite past time was meeting friends/family for dinner and eating any type of ice cream afterwards.
Louise is survived by her children, Sheryl Warren and husband, Steve; Kathy Black; Susan Hokanson and husband, Greg; Cyndi Whitley and husband, Frank; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. She is preceded in death by her son, Leo Paul (Chip) Black, II, her parents, sister, Betty Lechner, and another baby sister.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and the Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Grand View Funeral Home and will be laid to rest at Grand View Memorial Park.
