Dorothy Ross left this world in the early morning hours of March 8, 2016. She was surrounded in love by her three children, Cheryl Ross Boyington, Elaine Ross and Kelvin Ross. Dorothy was born December 24, 1929 to Anthony and Frances Sicinski in Roans Prairie, Texas. Dorothy arrived suddenly, and by the time her mother’s neighbor reached the house to help, Frances had already delivered Dorothy by herself. Dorothy carried her mother’s legacy of resourcefulness the rest of her life. Growing up on her family’s farm helped define her work ethic as well as her love of nature. She graduated Richards High School in 1948 and moved to Houston shortly after to work at Woolworth’s downtown. Dorothy’s roommate introduced her to Marion Ross, whom she wed in 1952. The two purchased land in Pasadena in 1959, the home where Dorothy lived and loved the rest of her life. Dorothy helped run the family business as a bookkeeper. After the loss of Marion in 1985, she continued work for several years before retiring to care for her aging mother fulltime. When her mother passed, Dorothy leveraged her love of gardening into a second career at a local nursery, retiring again at age 74. Dorothy’s warm and loving hospitality gave her many wonderful friendships that endured throughout her long and full life. Friends young and old gave her much delight. She also excelled in keeping her large extended family connected, and hosted innumerable family gatherings at her home so her mother wouldn’t have to travel. Lifelong loves of Mom’s included quilting and gardening, the fruits of which she was thrilled to share with anyone. She also indulged her children’s many and varied hobbies including camping, pets, livestock, flying and others, always fully immersed in all activities with them. Dorothy found a special peace at the Perpetual Adoration Chapel at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. Chapel friends included Isabell Atkins and Ann Perry, who she enjoyed visiting with. She is now at peace with those who preceded her, among them beloved husband Marion Ross, dear mother Frances Sicinski, cherished son-in-law Daniel Boyington, all eight of her siblings and several loved nieces and nephews. Relish all the storytelling that’s going on in heaven, Mom! Dorothy leaves behind her three children and her lifelong friend and sister-in-law Geneva Sicinski. Her namesake niece Dorothy Belinoski and “first child” Sandra Hill were there to comfort her and her children in her last hours. She considered her many nieces and nephews, their spouses and children, along with her children’s friends as her “kids” too. Pallbearers are Paul Sicinski, Ralph Sicinski, Mary Frances Sicinski, Vincent Sicinski, Joe Collida and Ross Harold. Honorary pallbearers include Dorothy Belinoski, Sandra Hill and Anne Sicinski. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 11, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a rosary service at 6:60 pm at Pasadena Funeral Chapel, 2203 Pasadena Blvd., Pasadena, Texas 77502. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 10:00 am at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church 2921 Center Street, Deer Park, Texas 77536. She will be laid to rest at Forest Park Westheimer in Houston, Texas next to her husband Marion, dear brother and friend Ambrose Sicinski and his wife Joyce, and Joyce’s sister Beryl. We’ll miss your dewberry pies, Mom.
