Don (Donny) McGowan, 57, of LaPorte, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on April 15, 2025. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on June 13, 1967 to James (Buddy)McGowan and Marguerita (Margie) McGowan-Sliger. He was married to his best friend and loving wife Stephanie McGowan for almost 37 years. Don worked a career in electric and traffic engineering for 37-years. He began his career as a journeyman electrician as part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W. Local #716), then worked as a field technician for the State of Texas Highway Department, before working numerous positions within the City of Houston Public Works and Houston TranStar, ultimately retiring as Division Manager in 2024.
He was a member of numerous church and civic organizations including a longstanding member of Faith Assembly of God, Pasadena, TX, @ccess Ministry, Pasadena PD Chaplin member, licensed minister with Christian Global Outreach Ministry, and participated with various men’s ministries throughout the Houston area. His passions were golfing, fishing, biking, and being outdoors. He notably loved scenic drives and weekend adventures with his family or close friends. He never met a stranger, and loved sharing his love for Jesus and the gospel.
He was preceded in death by his parents Buddy McGowan and Margie McGowan-Sliger, and his sister, Amarie (Amy) Ganter.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Stephanie McGowan, son and daughter-in-law, Tyler and Adriana McGowan, and soon-to-be grandson, Crimson McGowan arriving in May, whom he loved dearly. He also leaves behind brothers and their spouses: James and Jackie McGowan, Freddy and Cari McGowan (Preston), Chris and Cathy McGowan (Cody, James, Dustin, Gracie), brother-in-law Shannon Ganter, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Steve and Julie Doyle (Ashley, Nichole). He leaves a host of other family members and church friends that will deeply feel the loss of his presence.
