As one of ten children, she was raised in the Patmos and Garland areas of Arkansas. After high school, she attended beauty college in Little Rock and obtained her cosmetology license. However, she soon returned to her family in Patmos to help raise her three younger siblings after their mother's untimely death.
Delois married Milton Yancey on December 17, 1949, in Homer, Louisiana. In 1953 they moved to Pasadena where they were blessed with three children. Milton and Delois enjoyed 57 years of marriage and companionship before Milton's passing in December 2006. Delois was a dedicated housewife and mother. She was an active member of Second Baptist Church Pasadena, where she taught three year olds in Sunday School for numerous years. She enjoyed great friendships and spending time with family, especially around the dinner table.
Delois is survived by sons; Jimmy and wife Debbie Yancey of LaPorte, Gary and wife Marci Yancey of Huntsville, and daughter Tamara and husband Doyle Davis of Huntsville. Six grandsons; James and wife Jenni Yancey, Jonathan and wife Jamie Yancey, Justin and wife Codi Yancey, Tyler and wife Sharelle Yancey, Kyle Davis and Chase Davis. Five great-grandchildren; Averie, Chloe and Luke Yancey, Paizlee Gass, and Josey Holliday. One sister, Virginia Buffington, and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say a special thanks to mom's niece, Sarah Meyer, for her devoted care of her aunt. Also, the family would like to acknowledge and thank Lynn Longmire and her staff at the Angel Kissed Care Home in Huntsville for the love and care given to mom over the last few years.
Services will be held to celebrate Delois' life on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Grandview Funeral Home, Pasadena, Texas. The family will receive friends and family from 1:00 till 2:00, with the memorial service starting at 2:00. Internment will follow the service in the adjacent Grandview Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Delois' honor be made to either Second Baptist Church of Pasadena, Bayshore Baptist Church of LaPorte, or Elkins Lake Baptist Church of Huntsville.
