1927 – 2019
Clyde Alvin Cowey, 91, passed away at his home in Spring, Texas on Saturday, March 23, 2019. Clyde was born July 29, 1927 in Dewville, Texas to Ted Alvin and Nettie Click Cowey. He was the first born of 5 beloved children, Bernice Hahn, Carolyn Hill, Evelyn Miller and Teddy Cowey. In July of 1945, Clyde left Gonzales, Texas after his junior year of high school to enlist in the United States Navy. He proudly served his country during World War II as Chief Disbursing Officer on the island of Guam in the South Pacific. During his time on Guam he made many lifelong friends that he enjoyed keeping up with until the last days of his life. After returning home to Gonzales, he moved to Houston to look for work. It is there he met Roberta Adams and they married on July 14, 1951. They raised 3 children, Rita, Judy and Paul. Roberta preceded him in death after 43 years of marriage on October 15, 1994.
Clyde was a lifelong employee of Southwestern Bell/AT&T. His career impacted significant milestone events during the last century including communications at NASA, PBX installation and maintenance at the burgeoning Houston Medical Center and culminated at the advent of the technological age. After retiring from AT&T in the 1980’s he started his own business and worked as a communications consultant for many companies in Houston. He had a passion for the work that he did and he valued the enduring friendships that he made during this period of his life.
Clyde was proud of his Texas heritage and ancestry and loved the Texas Hill Country. He spent as much time as possible pursuing his favorite pastimes of fishing and enjoying time with loved ones on Lake Buchannan. In June of 1995, Clyde married the second love of his life, June Nannette Fleming and they spent many happy years together until her death in 2011. Clyde was a member of the Mavericks Sunday School class at South Main Baptist Church in Pasadena TX.
Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Nettie Cowey, sisters Carolyn Hill and Evelyn Miller, wife Roberta, daughter Rita, grandson Robert Hunold, as well as his wife Nannette.
He is survived by sister Bernice Hahn, brother Ted Cowey and Cathey, daughter Judy Cowey Walker and Jeff Brauninger, son Paul Alvin Cowey and Teresa. Grandchildren, Leslie Nicole Talley and Scott, Wesley Andrew Walker, Zachary Alvin Cowey, Meredith Alane Cowey and Garrett Austin Cowey. Great-Grandchildren, Blake Ryan Talley and Reese Morgan Talley.
A celebration of Clyde’s life will be held at Grand View Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena Texas 77505 and officiated by Rev. Roland Hill.

Services in Chapel at 2:00pm with a Military Tribute

Clyde was blessed and his family is grateful for the loving care provided to him by Lee Harding, Jackie Crowley, Zeira Becerra, Danna Sanchez and Janna Becerra. Their support during the challenging last years of Clyde’s life will not be forgotten. Special thanks to the caring staff at The Villages of Gleannloch Assisted Living.
