Charles L. Moore, 90, of Houston / Pasadena, Texas and formerly of Trout Creek, MT, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16th 2024. He was born in East Palestine, Ohio on March 9, 1934, to Leonard and Bessie Moore. He was married to Barbara Powers in 1955 for 25 years during which they raised 4 daughters together.
Charles had careers in farming, mining and finally long haul trucking.
Charles grew up in a farming life and as he got older he followed in the footsteps of his parents and grandparents, stepping out on his own to farm. He married and established his own family. He branched out from farming into logging and then working in mining to support his family.
Charles was led to trucking by many of the people he worked with early in his life. With trucking, he was able to see the country and all it had to offer. The more he travelled the more he became drawn to the frontier lifestyle he saw in the west. This is what drew him to move to Montana. He established a homestead where he depended on his skills and knowledge to thrive.
He had a passion for many things from the mechanical to the outdoors but the closest to his heart was his passion for music. He played the steel guitar and many other string instruments. Charles came from a family that loved music. He shared that love with his daughters where he help teach them as they each developed their own love for music. This mutual love for music led to the family band that traveled to perform, “Charlie Moore and the Log Cabin Girls”.
He loved to share his experiences and knowledge with all that would listen. He would show anyone the way he learned to do things and what he had learned along the way, the good and the bad. Underlying all of this Charles was also a prolific storyteller. Sharing his history, knowledge and passions with others is the continuation of his legacy.
He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Bessie Moore of Ohio, his sister Sara Mae Berger also of Ohio and one of his daughters, Joanna Cameron of Missoula, Montana.
He is survived by a loving family, his daughter Candy Cope and husband Randy of Ohio, daughter Jeannette Petty and husband Steve of Texas, and daughter Mary Lou Landsberger and husband Jeff of Ohio. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Amanda, Michael, Valerie, Trisha, Erica, Steven Jr., Elisha, Jeremy, Lance, Ralph and Allison, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
