It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Charles Rufus Holt at the age of 83. He departed this life on April 12, 2020, Easter Sunday, and began a celebration of eternal life in Heaven.
He was born on August 2, 1936, in Leesville, LA to the late Eula Hall and Rufus Holt. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Jimmy and two sisters, Lanell and Sue. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Catherine Emily Holt; son, Charles Darryl Holt and his wife Nora Holt; daughter, Tammy Hamrick; grandchildren, Chanel Spicer and husband Darren Spicer, Todd Holt and wife Heather Holt, April Parra and Ian Wright; and great-grandchildren, Maddie, Isla, Rhett, Alex, Zoey and Julian; as well as many other loving family members.
Charles graduated from Simpson High School in Simpson, LA. Shortly after graduation, he married his beautiful wife Catherine and joined the United States Army in 1954. He proudly served our country for three years and was honorably discharged as a Private First Class in 1957. After his departure from the United States Army, Charles and Catherine moved to Texas, and he worked for Houston Lighting and Power Company for 2 years until he found his true calling as a police officer. He graduated from the police academy and worked as a police officer for the City of Pasadena. He served his community well for 33 years and retired as Assistant Chief of Police.
Charles loved the outdoors, music, and traveling with his friends, family, and wife. Some of his favorite music was bluegrass and gospel. In his spare time, he loved carpentry and was an experienced wood craftsman.
While Charles was a man of many talents, his greatest accomplishment was that he was a man of God. He was a member of Monument Baptist Church and loved attending church with his wife and socializing with the many friends he gained while there. He was heavily involved with his church, had a calling to serve God, and knew that to be absent from the body was to be present with the Lord.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be given to Monument Baptist Church Building Fund.
