Mr. Charles Gordon Balke, 86, of Pasadena, Texas passed away Friday, April 29, 2022. Mr. Balke was born in Sealy, Texas on August 21, 1935 and was a long time resident of Pasadena, Texas. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Baytown, Texas in 1953 and entered the Army right after graduation. He served stateside in the Army from October 1953 to October 1956 as an electronics specialist. After leaving the Army, he attended Texas A&M University and graduated in 1960. Mr. Balke then worked for the FAA for 41 years and was responsible for maintaining the electrical equipment at many airports along the Gulf Coast.
Mr. Balke was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman and Marie Vicenik Balke. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lavada Bachmeyer Balke and 5 children. His sons are Karl Balke and wife Inga of Wyandotte, MI, and Charles W. Balke of Flower Mound, TX. His daughters are Karen Horrell and husband Bennie, Jr. of Spring, TX, Charlotte Phillips and husband Brent of Houston, TX, and Catherine Gaither and husband Nathan of LaPorte, TX. His 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren will miss his sense of humor and comforting hugs.
Charles was an active member of the Catholic Church and will be greatly missed for his positive attitude,
willingness to volunteer and ready jokes.
The Balke family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Sodalis Assisted Living who spoiled Charles during his final days and comforted Lavada during this difficult life event. Charles is happily sitting by the river and watching the boats go by – waiting for his family and friends to stop by to say hello.
A visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, May 12, 2022 in the chapel at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Hwy., Pasadena, TX 77505. A Rosary will be prayed during the Visitation.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church, 2921 Center Street, Deer Park, TX 77536 followed by a graveside service at Grand View Memorial Park Cemetery.
In place of flowers, the family requests houseplants or donations made to the National Kidney Foundation.
