Celia Tamez Baez, 86, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital in Houston, TX. She was born on July 15, 1930 in Cadereyta Jiménez, Nuevo León, Mexico to Santos Leal and Eulogio Tamez. Celia was one of five siblings and the eldest of her brothers and sisters.
Celia married Celso Baez, Sr. on September 9, 1949 in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Celia and Celso were happily married for over 50 years. Celia later immigrated to the United States in 1969.
Celia, the matriarch of a large and loving family was cherished by many. Celia enjoyed being surrounded by her family, indulged in epically long games of loteria (Mexican bingo), and was an avid NFL and NBA fan, often tuning into sporting events. Holidays and weekends were a staple in Celia's household and large family gatherings were most memorable when Celia was involved. Nothing will define Celia's legacy more than the family she created and the sense of family that she inspired. Celia's influence has transcended generations and she will continue to be her family's source of strength for all of time.
Celia was preceded in death by her spouse, Celso Baez, Sr.; her daughter San Juana Escoto; her son Esteban; brothers Enrique and Daniel Tamez; sisters Senaida and Senovia Tamez, and mother and father Santos and Eulogio. Celia is survived by her sons and daughters Jose Angel, Inez, Teresa, Betty, Antonio, Celia, Celso Jr., Martin, Maximino, and Laura; in addition to over 25 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Celia's funeral arrangements are under the direction of Funeraria del Angel, Pasadena, TX. On Monday, April 17, 2017 visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. A Catholic Mass will be held in Celia's honor on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Juan Diego Church, Pasadena, TX. Celia's burial arrangements are under the direction of Grandview Funeral Home in Pasadena, TX. Celia will be laid to rest next to her husband at Grand View Memorial Park/Bethany Cemetery on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 2:30 p.m.
