Barbara was born to William Atkins and Edna Merle Beasley, on October 24, 1951 in South Houston, Texas. She graduated San Rayburn High School in 1970. She then Studied Business and Accounting at San Jacinto College, while working as a single parent and raising her eldest son. She married Bill Herring in 1976 and they lived together in Deer Park, Texas. Together they raised two children.
She leaves as her legacy two sons, Ryan Herring and wife-Gloria, Christopher Rife and wife Jennifer, daughter- in-love, Amy Martinez; also her cherished grandchildren, Andrew Stice, Jonathan Martinez, Brandon Rife, Bailee Burke, Marissa Burke, Geneis Rife; great-grandchild, Delilah Martinez, sister-in-law, Deborah Atkins; nieces Jaime Mill and husband David, Jennifer Atkins, Jessica Atkins; nephew, Christopher Atkins.
Her children remember her as loving, caring and kind but stern. ” A person that whom accepted all the children in her biological or not as her own life”. Her greatest love was her grandchildren. She excelled in her field of Accounts Payable and Receivables. Mainly working in the equipment rental business until she retired in 2008. She was passionate about her work and made many lifelong friends along the way. Barbara’s other passions included, a love of her faith and savior Jesus Christ, tending to her home, flower gardens and lawn. She also loved her dogs and gambling. She was out-spoken when she felt something was unjust. Most of all she loved her husband Bill Herring.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 9, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Grand View Funeral Home, 8501 Spencer Highway, Pasadena, Texas 77505. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 10, 2019 in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Grand View Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Gordon Bethel, Steve Borden, Gordon Herring, Jonathan Martinez, Brandon Rife and Travis Wilson.
