A devoted Christian, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Anita lived a life of faith, love, and quiet strength. She raised seven children with love, warmth, and countless home-cooked meals. Her tamales, tortillas and beautifully decorated cakes were expressions of her deep care for others.
Anita was a longtime member of the seniors program at the Salvation Army, where she found great joy in spending time with others. She especially enjoyed having coffee and sharing conversations with friends her age. Together, they played bingo, worked on puzzles, went on trips, and took part in many other fun and meaningful activities.
She took great pride in her work as a school custodian and found happiness in painting ceramics, baking, quilting, antiquing and treasure hunting at garage sales. Loved a good game of dominoes, always staying one step ahead of grandpa, who could never quite beat her. Word search puzzles, especially sudoku were her quiet companions.
Anita loved spending time working in her yard where she grew beautiful roses, incredibly juicy grapefruits and impressively large lemons. At one point, a cactus in her yard grew as tall as a tree—but a hard freeze eventually wiped it all out.
She would often spend timeless hours playing her favorite albums, filling the house with melodies that meant so much to her. Old time country music was her favorite, especially the voices of Kitty Wells and Ernest Tubb. Meeting them both in person when they came to Pasadena brought her incredible joy - a memory she cherished for the rest of her life. She also had a deep love for old-fashion gospel music, both English and Spanish. She used to say she could feel God’s presence in the songs, that the music spoke to her soul in a way words never could.
