With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of June Helen Hansen on December 5, 2021. June is survived by her loving husband, Gerald; her sons, Jim (Peggy), and Norman; her granddaughter, Heather (Kevin); great-granddaughter, Molly; brother-in-law, Don (Cathy) and family; sister-in-law, Doreen and family; as well as extended family, numerous friends, and all their supportive neighbours from where they used to live. June is predeceased by her parents, James and Celia Johnson; her brothers, Arnold and Andrew; her two sisters, Doreen and Irene; and niece, Barbara.
June was born August 18th, 1924 in her family home on Georgia Street in Vancouver. She grew up in the Commercial District of Vancouver. After graduating from high school June worked at the Royal Bank main branch at Granville and Hastings. She was the bank’s first teletype operator, as well as working in the securities department.
June met her husband Gerry at a dance in Vancouver. They were married on the 6th of September, 1952. It was a home wedding hosted by June’s mother, Celia. They honeymooned at Yellowpoint Lodge. Due to Gerry’s air force career, they moved around quite a bit, and lived in Comox, Germany, Nanaimo, and Vancouver. In fact, they moved 27 times, ending up in Parksville in 1975. June and Gerry eventually had their two sons, Jim, and Norman. June raised their two boys while Gerry was away in the Airforce. She was also a savvy business-woman and worked for BC Forest Services and the DND.
June enjoyed reading, exercising, shopping, gardening, live theatre and music, television and watching golf. She sang in the church choir and with her sister on the radio. June travelled to many places in her lifetime, including Denmark, Norway, Hawaii, and Niagara Falls to name a few. She and Gerry also vacationed in Hollywood and met Tennessee Ernie Ford. June lived a life full of love and adventure, and will be dearly missed.
