David was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and grew up in the small village of Fall River. When David was 12 years of age his family moved to Alberta and he lived his remaining years out west.
As a teenager, David joined Air Cadets, where he met many of his lifelong friends. He attended high school in Leduc, AB then continued his education graduating from NAIT’s Forestry program in Edmonton.
David had many roles in life but being a dad and papa was the one he was most proud of. That dream finally came true for him later in his life. All of his children and granddaughters held a very special place in his heart.
As an environmentalist, David spent much of his time in the bush. One of his favorite areas was the Kootneys. He shared many harrowing stories of near death experiences from falling off a cliff, a grizzly bear encounter and escaping being trapped in a forest fire.
David loved his sports, and also enjoyed being a part of the Highland games but his passion was rugby. He often said “rugby saved me”, many fond memories and solid friendships were made through those years.
David leaves behind his daughter Miya, sons Brogan and Cooper, their mother Sonya, stepsons Mason (J-lee) and Jerry (Melanie), grandchildren Emilie and Katia, sister Nancy and parents Linda (Bonnie) and John and many cousins and friends.
We would like to thank the Nanaimo Hospital Emergency and Oncology medical team, Parksville ambulance attendants and the Oceanside Hospice Society. Plus, everyone who supported David and the entire family throughout his difficult journey.
We appreciate your stories shared below on the tribute wall.
A Celebration of Life will be determined at a later date.
