

He was born Sept. 2, 1928 in Morgantown, WV, a son of the late Lee and Nellie Rowan Stump. Bill graduated from WVU where he was in ROTC program and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon returning to Parkersburg, he co-founded Sunset Memory Gardens in 1956 with his brother, John. He was a long-time board member of the West Virginia Cemetery Association and attended Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He is survived by one son, William Patrick Stump of Snowshoe, WV; one daughter, Lynn Stump Nicholson and her husband, John, of Parkersburg; six grandchildren, Michael Stump of Belpre, OH, Holly Stump Burnside, Andrew and Marc Stump, all of Parkersburg, Kelly Nicholson of Charlotte, NC and Alex Nicholson of Snowshoe, WV; four great-grandchildren, Chloe and Colton Stump, Caden and Cody Burnside; special nieces and nephews, John David Stump of Belpre, Rebecca Brunk of CA, Tom VanHorn of Lewisburg, Robin VanHorn of Idaho Falls, ID, and Deb Easterling of Smithfield, VA; and many special grand nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Frances Stump; one son, Richard Michael Stump; one brother, John R. Stump; two sisters, Helen VanHorn and Tilly Stump; two step-brothers; and two step-sisters.
Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Dr. Kurt Busiek officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum with military rites by the American Legion Post #15.
Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
