Roger Lee Richards

Roger Lee Richards, 73, of Parkersburg, WV, passed away November 10, 2020.

Born May 13, 1947 in Parkersburg, WV; he was a son of the late James Oscar Richards and the late Edith Altice Turner Richards.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his spouse, Victoria J. Richards; and two sisters, Betty Eaton and Patricia Ewing.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving children, Michelle Honse (Richard), Casey Richards Woolf (Amber), Troy L. Richards (Leah), and James Jude Windland; grandchildren, Corrie Herman (Chequila), Zaya Richards (Halley), Caleb Richards (Megan), Mahala Richards, Gavin Honse, Garrett Honse, and Madison Richards; great-grandchildren, Tristan Herman, Marcella Herman, Isabella Couch, Jude Herman, Serenity Richards and Khloe Herman; and his partner in life, Barb Cramlet.

He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1967. He attended W.V.U. with a Bachelors in Criminal Law. He was an active member of The One Church in Vienna, WV where he enjoyed services and spending time sharing the Lord’s word. He made many friends and called them all family during his time with the church. He was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast. He was the owner and operator of R. L. Richards Security and Firearm Instruction and taught many the safety and laws of Gun use. He taught self-defense courses to the public and sponsored several activities with the children of the community to promote gun safety over the years. He was an investigator and worked with the Sheriff Department. He loved his family and spending time with his kids and grandchildren. Many dinners and family gatherings over the years began with him saying a prayer or grace and family uniting. He loved going to events with his grandchildren, whether it be sport activities, concerts, plays, and more. He loved his pets, Jasper and Milo and they were his life. He loved riding his Harley and going on rides with Troy and Jude and friends. He loved the time with the boys and the time he spent with them. He would brag about how free he felt in the open road with the wind in his face and how it brought his life into perspective. He loved life and lived his to the fullest. He enjoyed going to auctions and finding “Gems” he called them over the years that he brought back to all of us. He was an excellent Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Friend, and Partner and will be missed by many.

Services to celebrate the life of Roger Lee Richards will be held 3:00PM Sunday, November 22, 2020 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 1934 Dupont Road, Parkersburg with Glen Easterling officiating. Entombment will follow the service in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Friends may gather with the family from 1:00PM until time of the service Sunday at the funeral home.

In keeping with the Mandate issued by the Governor of WV facial coverings and practicing social distancing will be required.
