He was born April 4, 1933 to the late Charles R “Dick” & Ora Sams.
He served active duty in the Korean war with the 1092nd Army National Guard. He later retired from the O. Ames Company in 1996 after 34 years of employment. He was a member of the Riverhill United Methodist Church where he led the church hymns for many years and attended the Evangelical Methodist Church. He loved singing gospel music, was a member of the GMR Choir, and listening to the Gaither Vocal Band. He liked to stay busy mowing grass and keeping guard of the Heights while looking out the picture window.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Eloise Sams, son Terry (Tami) Sams, daughter Lori (Lorne) Mills; grandchildren Keri Sams, Whitney (Adam) Dobson, Lindsey (Arnold) Gates, Matthew (Stephanie) Sams, Ethan Mills & Levi Mills; his great-grandchildren Parker, Paxton and Presley Dobson, Kiona Gates, Colton and Carlee Sams, Sophia Mills; brother, Marlin (Carol) Sams.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Sharon Berry, Nova Sams, Charles Sams, brother-in-law Dan Berry and sister-in-law Lillian Sams.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. Wednesday April 24, 2024 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service from 11 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the funeral home.
